Home Assistant
The open-source hub that ties smart-home devices together locally, without depending on any single manufacturer's cloud.
Home Assistant replaces the usual pile of separate vendor apps (one for the thermostat, one for the lights, one for the cameras) with a single local hub that talks to all of them. Automations run on-site, so a dead internet connection doesn't mean a dead smart home.
It's also the one piece of software here that arguably best embodies the whole point of this project: devices that were designed to phone home to a corporate cloud, made to work entirely on my own terms instead.
